A Documented Research Report by Bob Wirt and Louisa Madrid Version 1; Mar 27, 2010 |
*Rita's death certificate shows her birth as 22 May 1859. The fact that the death certificate has her mother's maiden name as "Legara" when it really was "Leyva" reflects on how errors can occur even in official documents when reporting deaths. The following is from Bob Wirt's research:
_"There are six sources of information on Rita's birth year; below is each source and the year it implies for Rita's birth year:
1880 census she was 17 = 1863 1900 census she was 41 = 1859 This is not likely since her younger sister was born may 24, 1859 1910 census she was 54 = 1856 1920 census she was 50 = 1870 1930 census she was 67 = 1863 death certificate shows May 22, 1859. This is not likely since her younger sister was born may 24, 1859. I doubt if we will ever get any more data on her birth year, so it comes down to making an educated guess. I believed that somewhere in the 1859-1863 range was likely and picked 1861 because if seemed to fit in best with the others." |
