Linda Reagan tells us in the Discussion page "Discuss Any Family" on a post made on April 14, 2010 that a member of the Gard family "was a manager of the mine at Terlingua in the 1940s. When the mines closed, they moved into Alpine and he built the 2 story white house across from the Catholic Church."
